Why does LiteBreeze follow the hourly time entry system?

LiteBreeze has a no-compromise policy when it comes to your work-life balance. We are obliged to provide you with an extremely flexible environment and the assurance that our managers don’t look over your shoulders or intrude on your privacy.

LiteBreeze also guarantees equality for all employees. Unlike many other companies, you wouldn’t face different workloads on different teams under different managers. Your extra efforts will be recognized and rewarded on time.

How do we make this possible? Our answer is a transparent time entry system.

Our time entry system not only gives you flexibility but also ensures timely rewarding of your extra efforts in a fair and transparent manner.

When time entries are logged consistently throughout the day, it’s super easy for you to complete your work-day with a quick log out.

Benefits of using our time-entry system:

  • Transparent & fair evaluation – You will get paid for the entire hours you worked on a task. Without time entries, seniors will have to analyze your productivity against the estimates, which may not always be accurate. It would be hard for you to explain why a task took longer than the estimated time.
  • Flexibility/Freedom – You need not work eight hours continuously every day. You have the freedom to start late, stop early and take intermediate breaks of varying lengths in between. Management will not look over your shoulder to make sure you are working. You are given full freedom as your time entries will speak for you.
  • Reward for extra work – You have the opportunity to work overtime and earn additional income. When you voluntarily work overtime, the extra hours are paid for immediately, without question. But in the rare case of a senior or client requesting you to work overtime, you are paid double salary for the extra hours you put in.
  • Long-term benefits from profits – You get to see exactly how your time is spent and thus re-prioritize your work to improve productivity. Also, the client appreciates when we provide a detailed bill for the work we have done, and we can reduce the disputes even if the estimates are broken. This will increase our revenue, which is eventually paid out to you as hikes and bonuses.

FAQs

Q. What happens if I don’t have ‘full-time’ billable work?

A. Ideally, you should have a list of backup tasks that you can focus on if you feel there is not enough billable work. You can inform your senior when you are close to running out of ‘billable work’ including your backup tasks.

The senior will assign you some high priority tasks or let you work with your backup tasks or introduce you to any of our technical training programs. Rest assured, you will never run out of work at LiteBreeze.

Q. I finish my work in record time, but can not book the remaining time – Don’t you value my efficiency as I’m faster and more focused?

A. Of course, you need to move to the next task once you finish the current task. However, you have proof of your efficiency in the logbook and can present it to top management during our bi-annual appraisals. Rest assured that you will be rewarded for your efforts.

Q. Won’t it be more beneficial for me to move to a conventional system for enjoying a better work-life balance, as I will get occasional leisure time?

A. Not really, underutilized resources may not be fairly rewarded in conventional systems. Also, the occasional leisure time could also be a result of improper planning and mostly comes with a cost. Either your colleagues have to take the additional workload or you will be forced to work overtime later.

The time entry system at LiteBreeze enables us to utilize your full potential and reward you well. Also, it helps us to divide the workload equally between the available resources, thus ensuring a better work-life balance.

Q. Should all my time entries be exactly one hour? How can I book time for tasks that take more than one hour?

A. They can be shorter or longer but aim for one-hour blocks. You are allowed to use two-hour blocks if necessary. Aim to limit the usage of two-hour blocks to a maximum of five per week. You don’t need to divide the tasks like long meetings into multiple blocks.

Q. How precise should the time entry descriptions be? What if I switch between 3-4 tasks within one hour?

A. You don’t have to be exact down to each and every minute and you don’t have to bother about a five-minute break in a one hour task. Also, you need not worry too much about being precise about the block start and end times.

If you have to frequently switch between multiple tasks in an hour, you can group the time spent for each task with an approximate duration. Also, You can round off 10 minutes here and there in such a situation.

Below is an example from the LBPs:

Before: “920 Meeting personA regarding feature X, Y 945 Code review for last week: personB 1040 Meeting personA regarding featureZ 1100”.

After: “920 Meeting personA regarding feature X, Y, Z 1000 Code review for last week: personB 1100”.

This would still reflect how time was spent, but make it easier to book the two blocks on separate requirements and easier for seniors to interpret.
